Love Above All

Should we fear God?

Should we fear God? That depends on what "fear" means when referring to God. In
Psalms 2:11 we read "Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling."

Fear here doesn't mean to be afraid of God. Our Lord is a loving Father that cares about http://www.oneyearbibleimages.com/fear_lord_1.jpg
each and everyone of us. He is patient, long-suffering, slow in anger, merciful and
the qualities of God go on and it is described all over the Bible. But He is also a
Holy God, He calls us sons and friends but we should approach him with reverence. He
accepts us the way we are, all that come to God, believing in His son Jesus Christ as
Savior He will receive.

When God tells us we should fear Him it is for our own good. He wants us to prosper
and live a holy life. Fear the Lord will keep us from sinning. As the Psalmist
adverts us:"Psalms 31:19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for
those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in
you."
"Psalms 33:8-9 Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world
revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm."
Fear God is what shows our love back to Him. We know what He has done for us and all
He will still do, we recognize His love, His sacrifice, we acknowledge Him as our
creator and Father and we place our trust in Him.

God didn't intend to have people fear him for the wrong reasons. Many people can get distant from God after hear we should fear Him. But it is exactly the opposite that should occur. Fear God should make us more confident in our heavenly Father because we know a God that deserves our respect and reverence, a God that would love us so much to the point to give us His only Son: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16"

Fear God means to want to get in close relationship with Him and not far away from
Him. More we become intimate with God more we fear and honor Him. Fear God draws us
near to Him, wanting to know about Him. Also, when we fear God we are bringing blessings to our family like we see in Deuteronomy: 5:29 "Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!"

Should we fear God? If you want the blessings of God not only upon you but also your
family, yes, fear God with all your heart.

"Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show
favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. Acts
10:34-35"

If you still didn't receive Jesus as your savior but want to know more about the love and fear of God, repent of your sins, confess you believe in Jesus as the Son of God and ask Him to come in to your heart. He will receive you with open arms. God Bless you.
